Interior Redesigns
Project Statement
For my final project, I chose to redesign my family home. My grandparents constructed this house in 1978, and it has been passed down for three generations. My mom was a teenager when they moved in, and when she later got married to my dad he moved in as well and they had my sister, me and my brother. We all hold extremely sentimental value to our home and plan on passing it down to our kids in the future. Unfortunately, the house is out of date, and it has always been a dream for us to redo it but growing up we could not afford it. Since my dad has gotten a new job, redoing the house has become more of a possibility. I wanted to create an idea of what the house would look like, so hopefully we can make it a reality one day. The second I told my family; they were all so excited to tell me the ideas of what they would like and dream of. I chose my mom as a client because she always talks about what she would do with the house if she could, and to have an open kitchen because she loves to cook. While spending time with my mom, we imagined our dream homes while discussing furniture, flooring, patterns, and color schemes. For a budget, we tried to stay realistic for redoing the upstairs of the house by setting it at $100,000 but leaving a little room with a max of $125,000. This is because she would like a full renovation and we have always dreamt of and didn’t want too many restrictions. This project was very enjoyable to get the chance to make our dreams a reality, since my parents have been discussing it ever since. We are such a close-knit family, and this house holds so many memories. Creating this project and spending time with my family doing it was a great experience and getting to show my mom her dream home was priceless.
